"UFO" is a Sci-fi series from the early 70's, made by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson. It involves a secret organisation known as SHADO (Supreme Headquarters Alien Defence Organisation) which is put in place to protect the Earth from visiting aliens who appear to be harvesting human organs. This was the Anderson's first time using real actors, rather than marionettes in a series that was well ahead of its time. They made a particularly good choice when they cast Ed Bishop as Commander Straker, head of SHADO. Many of the storylines in "UFO" include parallels to the kind of human dilemmas that we all face at some point in our lives, and some of the special effects are still quite stunning. It's interesting to compare "UFO" with some of the new sci-fi series which cover a similar area (eg. "X-Files"). Considering "UFO" was shot nearly 30 years ago, it's not bad at all!
